Description

Restraint, the way Omega did it in the early 1980s. A gold-tone cushion case with soft corners and a flat profile, and a champagne dial carrying nothing but applied gold stick indices, the Omega symbol and the wordmark. No seconds hand, no calendar, nothing to interrupt the surface.

The TV-shaped cushion is the point. It gives the watch enough face to read as a proper dress piece while staying slim enough to disappear under a shirt sleeve, and the champagne finish shifts between pale gold and deep amber as the light moves.

It presents very well for its age. The plating is bright and even across the case, the dial is clean and the applied indices are sharp. On a brown croc-embossed leather strap with an Omega signed crown.

Historical Significance

Omega made De Ville its dedicated dress line in 1967 and carried it through the quartz era without softening the design discipline. The cushion and TV-shaped cases of the early 1980s are the most distinctly period pieces in the run, built when Omega was willing to let a case shape do the talking and leave the dial almost empty. They wear far more easily than their square proportions suggest.
