Omega Constellation Chronometer Day-Date Quartz | Gold | Champagne Diamond Dial | Fluted Bezel | Ref 198.0111 | 1977

Description

The Omega Constellation is the brand's chronometer-certified flagship, and the Day-Date Quartz references from the late 1970s represent one of the most elegant periods in the line's history. This reference 198.0111 combines Omega's high-accuracy quartz movement with a dial that quietly announces itself, diamond-set trapezoid indices on a champagne linen face.

The serial number dates the watch to 1977. The tonneau case is gold with a distinctive fluted bezel that carries the Constellation's architectural DNA, measuring 35mm without the crown and 36mm with the crown. The champagne linen dial is the star. Trapezoid indices at every hour are set with small diamonds, catching light at every angle. Day and date windows sit together at 3 o'clock, and the Omega logo with Constellation Chronometer script fills the upper dial.

Inside sits the Omega caliber 1348, a high-grade Swiss quartz movement that runs and sets the time as it should. The watch is currently being serviced. As part of this service the watch will receive a new and original Omega crown, replacing the worn current one. The new crown is included in the price. The brown croc-embossed leather strap keeps the palette warm and classical, fastened by a gold-tone buckle. The caseback carries the Observatory medallion, Omega's historical reference to the brand's chronometry record at the Geneva, Neuchatel, and Kew observatories.

Historical Significance

Omega's 1340-series quartz calibers for the Constellation line in the late 1970s were genuinely exceptional, high-frequency Swiss quartz movements built to chronometer accuracy standards. The 1348 added the day-date complication to the 1340 base. Reference 198.0111 paired this movement with a diamond-set dial, taking the Constellation into full dress territory while retaining the precision pedigree. The Observatory medallion caseback is a direct design reference to Omega's record-holding performance at the Swiss observatories in the 1940s and 1950s, when the brand's chronometers set accuracy records that still stand.

A gents Omega Constellation Chronometer with diamond-set dial, day and date, fluted bezel, and the Observatory medallion. Dated 1977, confirmed reference 198.0111 and caliber 1348, currently being serviced with a new original crown included in the price.
