Omega Chronostop Ref. 145.009 | Patina “Granite” Dial | Manual Wind | 1970s

Description

The Omega Chronostop Ref. 145.009 is a perfect example of Omega experimenting and getting it right. Built as a single-button chronograph designed for quick timing, the Chronostop was never meant to be flashy. It was meant to be useful, readable, and a little unconventional.

This example has developed something special over time. The original dial has aged into a granite-like texture, a natural patina that gives the surface depth and character you simply cannot replicate. It’s not damage, it’s honest aging, the kind collectors actually look for. Every angle catches light differently, making the dial feel alive rather than flat.

The asymmetrical case design gives the watch a strong wrist presence, while the single pusher layout keeps everything intuitive. It’s mechanical, tactile, and engaging to use, exactly how Omega intended the Chronostop to feel.

The watch is fitted with an aftermarket strap and buckle, a common and practical choice that keeps the focus where it belongs, on the case and dial.

Historical Significance

The Chronostop line reflects Omega’s late-1960s and early-1970s willingness to break traditional chronograph norms. Instead of multiple sub-dials and pushers, Omega created a simple, intuitive timing watch aimed at everyday use. References like the 145.009 have become increasingly collectible, especially when they exhibit honest, attractive patina rather than over-restoration. The granite-textured dial on this example gives it a one-off personality that modern reissues can’t touch.
