Longines Quartz | Silver Linen Dial | Gold-Tone Cushion | Named 1981 Service Award

Description

A very quiet watch carrying a very specific history. The cushion case is gold-tone with a brushed integrated bracelet, and the dial is a fine linen weave in silver, marked only with applied gold batons, the winged hourglass and the word Quartz.

There is no calendar, no seconds hand, nothing to break the surface. This is the Longines answer to the thin electronic dress watch, where the whole argument rests on the quality of the dial finish and the proportion of the case.

The back is engraved CHARLES D. MORRIS, GOODYEAR, 25 YEARS SERVICE, 1981. A named man, a named company and a year, cut cleanly into the steel and still perfectly readable.

Historical Significance

Longines, founded at Saint-Imier in 1832, holds ten Grand Prix and twenty eight gold medals from international exhibitions, a record no other watchmaker has matched. Its response to the quartz era was to keep the dress watch exactly as it had been and simply change what was inside, which is why a piece like this still carries a properly finished linen dial rather than a printed one. Goodyear, like most large American manufacturers of the period, marked long service with a signed Swiss watch rather than a plaque.

Offered by ReWrist. Each piece is inspected and photographed in-house. Vintage Luxury, Redefined.
