IWC Schaffhausen Automatic Ref. 1819 | Cal. 8541B | Original Steel Mesh Bracelet
Description
This IWC Schaffhausen Ref. 1819 is classic IWC done the right way. Understated, precise, and built around one of the brand’s most respected automatic movements. No excess styling, no unnecessary complications. Just proportion, engineering, and long-term wearability.
The 34 mm case wears larger than the numbers suggest thanks to its clean dial opening and a 40 mm lug-to-lug span. At 11.8 mm thick, it has enough presence to feel substantial without ever becoming bulky. This is the kind of watch that sits naturally on the wrist and disappears until you glance down and remember why IWC earned its reputation.
Inside is the manufacture Calibre 8541B, part of the legendary 85 family developed under Albert Pellaton. The bi-directional Pellaton winding system is still considered one of the most efficient and durable automatic mechanisms ever designed. It’s a movement that prioritizes longevity and mechanical honesty over gimmicks.
Adding to the appeal is the original steel mesh bracelet with original buckle. These period-correct IWC mesh bracelets are increasingly difficult to find and elevate the watch from a simple head-only example into a complete, collector-worthy piece.

Historical Significance
The Ref. 1819 represents IWC at a time when the brand was fully committed to in-house engineering excellence. The Calibre 8541B stands as one of IWC’s most important automatic movements and a cornerstone of the Pellaton winding legacy. Watches like this weren’t built to impress briefly, they were built to last decades. Original examples with factory mesh bracelets are increasingly scarce and are especially attractive to collectors who value completeness and mechanical pedigree.
