Invicta “17” Chronograph Ref. 32658 | Screw-Back Waterproof | Steel & Brass Chromed Top | Circa 1935–1939

Description

This is a genuinely rare pre-1940 Invicta chronograph, the type of watch that quiet collectors get excited about. It wears like a proper 1930s tool watch: bold dimensions, a heavy screw back meant to protect the movement, and a dial that tells a real story. The dial is original and untouched, showing attractive even patina that adds character rather than damage. The top of the case is brass chrome plated, the back is steel, and the whole build reads like a tough wrist instrument from the interwar period.

The screw back waterproof case is an uncommon feature on chronographs of this era and makes this example particularly interesting. The caseback design visually echoes some 1930s Lemania military chronographs, which may indicate shared case or supplier practices at the time, but the exact relationship is not documented here. What we can say for sure is that this is a scarce, well preserved piece with strong period character.

Historical Significance

Screw back waterproof chronographs from the 1930s are uncommon. During that decade chronograph design was experimenting with improved ruggedness for military and professional use, so a waterproof screw case on a wrist chronograph is a noteworthy survival. The visual similarity of the caseback to some Lemania military chronographs suggests shared manufacturing practices or suppliers, which was not unusual among Swiss makers then. Regardless of exact provenance, this Invicta represents an authentic piece of 1930s chronograph history and is a rare find in largely original condition.
