Description

A soft-cornered cushion case in gold tone, worn on a woven herringbone mesh that moves like cloth. The mesh is the best part of this watch, densely plaited and still supple, and it is what gives the piece its 1970s character.

The champagne dial is laid out with a fine raised rectangle enclosing the Accutron Swiss signature, with applied batons outside it. It is a quiet, well proportioned dress watch that sits flat under a shirt sleeve.

Historical Significance

Accutron was Bulova's flagship name, made famous by the tuning-fork calibre of 1960 that ran to a hum rather than a tick and was accurate enough for NASA instrument panels. Bulova later applied the Accutron name across its Swiss-assembled dress output as well, and pieces marked Accutron Swiss belong to that wider family. This one is offered on its markings rather than on a calibre claim, since the case has not been opened to confirm what is inside.
