Universal Geneve Gold Boy | Ref 871.171 | Black Dial | Stainless Steel

Description

Universal Geneve is one of the great names of Swiss watchmaking, the house behind the Polerouter and the Tri-Compax, and this automatic carries that badge on a clean steel case. Collectors know the 871 family as the Gold Boy, a mid-1990s line that ran in steel, two-tone and gold; this is the steel one. The black dial is deep and unbroken, with applied steel batons and a neat date at three.

Turn it over and the movement is on show through an exhibition caseback, still wearing its original Universal Geneve protective sticker. It arrives on the matching seven-row steel bracelet with a signed clasp, and is rated to 10 ATM.

Historical Significance

Universal Geneve built its reputation across the twentieth century on chronographs and on the Polerouter, designed by a young Gerald Genta. The Gold Boy comes from the house's mid-1990s output, offered across steel, two-tone and gold references in the 871 and 271 families, and it is one of the more accessible ways into a name that collectors take seriously.
