Longines Ultra-Thin Manual Wind | Champagne Dial | Gold Plated | Full Set with 1984 Certificate

Description

The kind of Longines that was made to slip under a shirt sleeve, and it is a hand-wound mechanical watch. An ultra-thin gold plated case, a champagne dial with nothing on it but slim black-filled batons and two hands, and the winged hourglass under the twelve.

It comes as a full set. The Longines presentation box, the outer card box, the leather document wallet and the Certificate of Origin, which is filled in and matches the watch: case number 20199927 on the card and on the caseback, reference written as 16G P450/311, and a sale recorded on 1 October 1984 under the stamp of Watches of Switzerland Ltd., 64 Friars Square, Aylesbury.

Historical Significance

Even as battery watches arrived, Longines kept building slim hand-wound movements for its dress watches through the late 1970s and 1980s, and a thin mechanical two-hander like this one was the traditional choice of the period, the line that led to its later Grande Classique. Watches of Switzerland was then, as now, one of the largest authorised retailers in Britain, and a certificate stamped at its Aylesbury branch fixes this piece to its first owner's purchase.
