Description

The Charleston is Longines looking back at its own 1920s pocket-watch dials and putting them on the wrist. An off-white dial carries tall black Roman numerals around a printed railway minute track, with a finely guilloched sub-seconds register sunk at six.

Slim wire lugs and a gold-tone case keep the whole thing period-correct and elegantly thin. It retains its original Longines-embossed leather strap and signed gold-tone buckle, which is exactly how you want to find one.

Historical Significance

Longines holds one of the deepest archives in Swiss watchmaking and has drawn on it more consistently than almost any rival. The Charleston is that instinct at work: it takes the printed Roman dial, railway minute track and sunken sub-seconds of the trench watches Longines was making in the 1920s, and rebuilds them around a modern quartz movement. The idea outlived the model and became the DolceVita, which Longines still sells today.
